Emma is an artist, writer and photography enthusiast based in the North Florida Big Bend. Emma grew up in Costa Rica, a country known for its biodiversity and the upheld value of protecting the environment. In 2010 Emma moved to Florida and in 2024 moved to the north of the state where she currently resides. Emma is very passionate about conservation and protecting the environment and she enjoys being out in nature learning about wildlife and the different types of plants and animals. Since moving to North Florida, she has fallen in love with its beauty. In 2022 Emma was diagnosed with Lupus. An autoimmune disease that among other symptoms, makes her extremely sensitive to the sun. Since her diagnosis, Emma’s lifestyle drastically changed. She could no longer spend all that time outside in nature, walking trails, listening for birds. However, in the following years Emma has found ways to still enjoy the outdoors while being careful with her condition. Wearing sun protection and avoiding the harshest UV levels of the day are some of the ways she has found to cope with her condition while still enjoying her love for the outdoors.
This website is dedicated to documenting the wide variety of species of plants and animals in the Big Bend and the importance of protecting their habitat, all without having to leave the comfort of your home.
